As with most other products, the indicator of product quality is how long of a warranty the manufacturer is willing to offer. These days even cars and kitchen appliances rarely have warranty longer than 3 years. So a 5 year warranty on this non gated night vision device surely speaks volumes about the quality of the components and workmanship.
Night Vision Depot MICRO is a PVS14 type of monocular. It offer a super compact design and yet supports connectivity to the AN/PVS14 standard accessories by means of an adapter. This means that you can use this monocular with all the helmet and head mounting gear designed for PVS14 as well as weapon and tripod mounting setups.
In combination with a wide range of Gen 3 Pinnacle and Exelis tubes all of which come with a datasheet this monocular is a power house night vision device in a MICRO body.
Bottom line is that if you are in the market for a night vision monocular and adding magnification lenses is not important for you, then NVD MICRO is a strong contender for your money. If you do need magnification capabilities, then either opt for one of the PVS14 models or look at another manufacturer like Armasight or ATN who make their own variations of the PVS14 style night vision monoculars.
This particular model of NVD MICRO is NVD-MICRO-XLS-2. This device has a tube very similar to the XLS-1 variation but has a small spot in zone 1. It offers a non gated Exelis consumer level IIT with the following minimum parameters:

The NVD MICRO Monocular is an ultra small, American Made, Generation III image intensified night vision device that truly brings the term “Pocketscope” into definition. Yet the MICRO is much more than just a pocketscope - it can also be head or helmet mounted, weapon mounted, or mounted to a camera.
The MICRO’s small profile truly means that it will fit into a pocket for the ultimate night surveillance device, and its easily interchangeable CCTV objective lens means that when conditions warrant, a higher magnification objective can be used for longer range observation. The MICRO camera adapter (optional) also allows it to quickly and easily be attached to a camcorder or digital camera for recording night time pictures and videos.
The MICRO’s ability to be attached to the standard AN/PVS-14 head and helmet mounts via the optional adapter, allows the MICRO to utilize all standard AN/PVS-14 and AN/PVS-7B head and helmet mounts, which is great for hands free night time navigation.
The MICRO can also be utilized with the optional AN/PVS-14 Weapon Mount as a night vision weapon sight when used behind collimated reflex type sights such as the ACOG, Aimpoint, or EO Tech sights.
The NVD MICRO is built using the highest quality Commercial, MIL GRADE or MIL SPEC ITT/Exelis GEN III Pinnacle Auto Gated image intensifier tubes and comes with a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY!
Night Vision Depot systems are now available for purchase with Gen 3 “XLS” Image Intensifiers manufactured by ITT Exelis. These XLS tubes are available for customer applications within law enforcement and commercial applications. The Gen 3 photocathode is very sensitive to low-radiation levels of visible and, especially, near infrared light. The 6-micron channel spacing provides exceptional resolution and extended detection ranges in low-light conditions. The tube lifespan is 12,000+ hours. The XLS systems are available with or without a small spot in Zone 1 and come with a FIVE year warranty.

By adding a sensitive chemical, gallium arsenide to the photocathode a brighter and sharper image has been achieved over 2nd generation units. An ion barrier film was also added to increase tube life. 3rd Gen. provides the user with good to excellent low light performance. 3rd Gen. Standard IIT Our standard 3rd generation image intensifier tubes are of the highest quality. They have a micro channel plate, GaAs photocathode, and a completely self-contained integral high-voltage power supply. These 3rd Generation tubes provide a combined increase in resolution, signal to noise and photosensitivity over tubes with a multi-alkali photocathode. Generation 3 is the standard for the USA military.

Delivery Time and Manufacturing Process for Night Vision Depot MICRO Night Vision Monocular Non Gated XLS2:
Most of our manufacturers do not keep products like Night Vision Depot MICRO Night Vision Monocular Non Gated XLS2 assembled on the shelf. Night Vision tubes are kept separate from the body of the unit. When the order is placed, the manufacturer starts the order processing and assembly process which includes the following:
- Order processing - we collect all the necessary information including address and phone numbers. We also make sure that our customer ordered the correct product for their needs and that the product can be exported by US law to the country of destination. In some cases a signed export compliance form is required.
- QC - in this step the manufacturer will inspect all individual parts which will be used to assemble the night vision device for any defects.
- Production & Assembly - during production, all the parts are put together. Night Vision tubes in inserted into the body of the unit and all the complex electronics for the device are connected. This process takes place in a special lab called the "clean room" as even a small speckle of dust can cause undesired optical effect.
- QA - one the night vision device is assembled, it goes through a rigorous testing process to make sure it meets all the expected specifications and all parts function as expected. For this most manufacturers have a special "dark room" designed to allow testing of the units without causing incidental damage to the night vision tube by exposure to bright light.
- Packaging - this is a key process as well. In most case your night vision device will be shipped to you directly from the manufacturer but sometimes needs to be sent to us first. In either case items need to be packaged securely to avoid any kind of damage during transportation.
- Shipping - as described above items will most of the time ship from the manufacturer. For most domestic orders (unless shipping to POB or AFB) a premium shipper like FedEx or UPS will be used.
Only by following the above steps can we along with our manufacturers bring you - our customer - night vision products of highest quality, However as you can understand the above process can take several days to complete. For example if your device fails QA, the entire process restarts. Also at QC stage a manufacturer may realize that the tube they have in stock has a defect and a replacement tube needs to be ordered. Due to the complexity of this process, it is prudent to expect 3-4 business days for production and handling of the purchased device. Keep in mind that this process is designed to guarantee your satisfaction with the night vision device of your choice. It occasionally possible to expedite the process for urgent orders but addional fees or other restrictions may apply.
